Shipment to Iran
The decision whether to transport by land or sea depends on the conditions of your project. These include factors such as your contractual agreement with the trading partners, your pricing expectations, the security, as well as your temporal flexibility regarding the date.
If the contractual agreement with your Iranian partner requires to deliver to the port, there is a decision in favor of the ocean freight. The containers for Iranian ports are mostly handled in the United Arab Emirates, above all the Jabal Ali (Jebel Ali) port in Dubai. Therefore, the loading capacity for Iranian ports is determined by the load factor of the freighters, which ship containers towards the Gulf and further east towards the Far East.
As a result, narrow passes can occur and early bookings are strongly recommended.

Basically, we can say that: The more northward in Iran the final destination of loading is situated, the more it is worth to consider the land transport. It is associated with the relatively high Inland transport costs for the container. The transit time and the loading capacities can further favour land transportation.
Therefore, the shipment to Iran by land transportation represents a good alternative to sea freight, due to the capacities of which have constantly increased in the past 15 years.
Firstly, the transit time for trucks is clearly less (on average 15 days) as compared to the sea containers (Northern ports of Germany to Bandar Abbas currently 30 days).
Secondly, the availability of loading space is clearly better even at short notice. Moreover, for specific loads for which cranes must be utilised, using a truck with tarpaulin would make more sense than Open Top Containers. As the special equipment, Open Top Containers cause additional costs, particularly as there are only few back loads from Iran to Europe.
