JAMAICA – BIRTHPLACE OF REGGAE

Jamaica is located south of Cuba and west of Hispaniola in the Caribbean Sea. It has a population of 2.6 million living on a total area of 11,425 square kilometers – 800,000 of whom reside in the capital, Kingston. Inseparably linked with Jamaica is the notion of rum, stunning beaches, and reggae. While absolutely true, the Caribbean island nation has much more to offer. For example, breathtaking landscapes that will enchant nature lovers.

Not without reason is Jamaica considered one of the greenest islands in the Caribbean: The floral attire of orange-red tulip trees, red hibiscus, and white orchids displays radiantly. To date, around 3,000 plant species have been identified in Jamaica, with about a third of them unique to the island. Additionally, there are more than 100 species of birds and butterflies. Everywhere blooms and flourishes in abundance: Orange plantations and sugarcane fields meet mango trees and bamboo groves, whose beauty is unmatched. The Jamaican geography presents itself no less varied: In addition to dreamy beaches, there are splendid valleys, numerous rivers and streams, and tropical rainforests. In the east of the island, the Blue Mountains rise up to 2,256 meters high.
