MOVING TO INDONESIA
Taking a vacation on a tropical island is undoubtedly dreamy – but many people dream of spending more time in such a place. It’s no wonder that more and more Germans are settling in Indonesia to seek their fortune there. Whether for personal interest, to enjoy retirement, or for professional reasons, the starting points for considering leaving Germany are numerous. Certainly, the romantic image of Indonesia as a South Seas paradise with a peaceful and hospitable population also contributes to this.
EMIGRATION AND VISAS
Those who have decided to emigrate to Indonesia should inform themselves about entry to Indonesia in a timely manner. In principle, German nationals can stay in the country for up to 30 days without a visa. Extending the thirty-day stay is not possible – however, there are some options for living in the country for several years. Different documents are required for the respective purpose, which is best requested directly from the embassy. The visa for Indonesia for a temporary stay of a maximum of two years is called ITAS or KITAS. It can be applied for, for example, if you come to Indonesia for studies, work, or family reunification. Research, investment, and retirement are also legitimate reasons. After the two years have expired, the visa can be extended every two years upon request, with a maximum duration of stay of six years. Certain groups of people, including investors, foreigners with an Indonesian spouse, and retirees, can also apply for a long-term stay, the so-called ITAP or KITAP. HIGHEST CARE AND MAXIMUM RELIABILITY
Those considering working in Indonesia should be aware that a work permit is only granted if the Indonesian company can prove that no local can perform the work with sufficient qualification. Finding a job in Indonesia is accordingly difficult. To improve one’s chances of employment, at least basic knowledge of the Indonesian language should be present. The average annual income in Indonesia is around 1,900 US dollars. However, employees of foreign companies usually have a higher income. Often, the costs for the car, social security contributions, and housing are also covered.
