WORTH KNOWING
Nature and environment
Germany’s landscapes are very diverse. From the windswept northern coast to the majestic Alps in the south, there is a lot to discover for nature lovers.
The central European country has 16 national parks. The resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, for example, is one of the most popular destinations for winter sports and mountain hiking. It is nestled in the Alps and located close to the highest mountain in Germany, which is named Zugspitze.
Germans show a lot of respect for their environment. This is reflected in government policies and a general tendency for preserving forests and natural areas.
The water supply is generally safe and the lakes and rivers are flawless. Water from the tap is clear and drinkable.
Living Conditions
Germany offers a lot of cultural qualities. Recreational and sporting opportunities are offered numerous, classical music and theatre find their place like in hardly any other country, gatherings and celebrations are common and widespread.
In general, freedom of movement is relatively unrestricted here, while physical integrity and the possibility of privacy, both by law and in reality, are provided to a significant degree.
Germany has a very good standard of living. Housing costs are quite low outside the centers of large cities, and food prices are relatively the lowest in Europe. Spending on food and non-alcoholic beverages accounts for about 10-11% of a German’s income.
Communities often have car-free and walkable centers. A functioning waste management system ensures a clean environment.
The many rules and norms that shape everyday life and behaviour of Germans may take some getting used to, but the benefits that come from this are hard to overlook.
Education and care are largely completely state-funded. According to the Times Higher Education Ranking (THE), 10 German universities are among the best 100 in the world.
Overall Germany can be described as a very free country that can offer perspectives, a safe place to live his or her way of life, and a home worth living in. Whether Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt, Munich, East Frisian Islands or Lake Constance: you will find it.
