Moving with Wooden Crates / Liftvan with a small volume (up to 12 cbm)
For smaller relocation projects up to 12 cbm overseas, a transport by liftvan is recommended. These wooden crates, also called Crate, offer a good alternative to the conventional 20-foot containers with low furniture extend. There are standardized liftvans with an external volume of up to 5.8 cubic meters. However, it is also possible to have individualized wooden crates made as needed, for example to safely ship motorcycles.
Composition of Liftvans
As a rule, liftvans are made of seawater-proof solid or glued plywood and offer the advantage that they can be shipped worldwide cost-effectively via German seaports. By sending the partial loads LCL (“less than container load”) in the overseas crates, the transport can be carried out as consolidated freight and thus minimize costs.
A standard overseas crate type 1 (205 cuft) can accommodate up to 40 moving boxes. The inside dimensions are 2190mm x 1090mm x 2030mm and thus have a volume of 4.85 cbm. If a larger volume is needed, more liftvans can be used.
With a required interior volume of 2.16 cbm or less, we recommend a liftvan of the type ¼ (92 cuft). The inside dimensions are 1160mm x 1040mm x 1790mm.
Furthermore, there are special customizations for sofas, motorcycles and machines as needed. The crate must be calculated exactly – to be able to load all moving goods accurately into a wooden box. These then come with others as consolidated freight in a large overseas container. The hold of a collective container is rented by the respective seaport forwarder (collection service provider) to different loaders. This allows the costs to be distributed to individual parties.
