 A purchased container can be useful:

• If you would like to load unhurriedly over a longer period.
• If you intend to use the container further in the destination country, e.g. as warehouse or garage and the costs for the used container are higher in the destination countries than in the country of origin.
• If you do not have a storage place or place of unloading in the destination country for your freight immediately and if the goods remain in the container for the time being.
• If difficulties regarding the import procedures are expected in the destination port and if one can avoid detention (charges due to overrunning of free time) by using own container.

These and other reasons can be in favour of a purchased container; however, it leads to additional costs. Mostly, the import of such containers is chargeable in the destination country and thus accompanied by the import duties. Moreover, in order to utilise the benefits of the purchased containers, additional costs, like use of cranes (use of side loaders or mobile cranes) and two journeys (delivery and subsequent resumption), arise.
