Visa and Entry

Mexico is a populous country. Tourists can stay in the country for up to six months continuously. Entry to Mexico is more complicated for those who wish to emigrate to Mexico permanently. Then a Mexico visa (“Residencia temporal”) is mandatory. With a work visa, immigrants can stay in the country for one year, which must be renewed annually. Permanent emigration is possible for those who have lived in Mexico for at least five years. The processing of a visa application for Mexico typically takes ten days from the receipt of the documents. However, since visa and entry regulations frequently change, it is advisable to inquire specifically at the nearest Mexican Consulate General before entering Mexico.

Work and Moving

EU-citizens in Mexico who wish to work here must also apply for a work permit (“Permiso de Estancia” for working in Mexico). Usually, it is applied for by the Mexican employer at the Mexican immigration authority (“Instituto Nacional de Migración”). Only with it is it possible to pick up the Mexico visa. For this, Europeans must personally appear at the nearest Mexican Consulate within 30 days of receiving the work permit. Only after these formalities are completed can one’s own moving goods be temporarily and duty-free imported. For this, a personal application for moving goods must also be submitted at the Mexican Consulate General – best done together with the application for a Mexico visa. Among other things, a list of all moving goods in Spanish is required for the application. We are happy to help you plan the individual steps of your move to Mexico according to your wishes, needs, and requirements to ensure a smooth process.
